A peer-review panel of 14 expert judges reviewed a record 72 detailed submissions from organizations ranging from large pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies to academic institutions and niche service providers. Best practices were given in eight categories, along with 5 'Honorable Mentions' for which Univa was named along with its customer Pathwork Diagnostics. "Pathwork's project is a textbook business case for utilizing public clouds, and we're proud to be a part of it," said Jason Liu, president and CEO of Univa UD. The Univa-Pathwork project involved the deployment of computing clusters in the Amazon EC2 cloud service. Pathwork Diagnostics, Inc. develops molecular diagnostic tests to aid oncologists in the diagnosis of hard-to-identify cancer tumors. Looking to avoid a large hardware investment while still meeting its processing needs, Pathwork selected Univa's UniCloud product to build computing clusters in the Amazon EC2 cloud. With UniCloud, Pathwork saved hundreds of thousands of dollars, increased computing capacity, and enabled key research innovations which would otherwise have been infeasible.
