Position Description

Univa UD's High Performance Computing unit is looking for a seasoned software test engineer for our office in Lisle, Illinois. The successful candidate will have the drive, motivation and experience to initially build and then technically lead a team of software developers to create the next generation of high performance computing and clustering products operating both within and outside the cloud. You must have a passion for delivering cutting edge technology ahead of the curve and before your competitors can beat you to it. Our products, UniCluster, Grid MP, and Insight, are industry leading solutions in the worlds of clusters and clouds.

This position is responsible for the planning and execution of all aspects of the QA aspects of the software release cycle including, but not limited to, defect validation, integration, system, regression, scalability, performance and user acceptance testing. You will work with a software development team that builds products using the Agile/Scrum model so your ability to operate in that kind of fast-paced, dynamic environment will be essential to your success.

Responsibilities

  • Daily participation in daily Agile / Scrum meetings
  • Work with Product Management and Product Engineering to create and maintain product test plans
  • Build and maintain the testing infrastructure tools and processes necessary to execute test plans
  • Participate in the hiring process
  • Drive the execution of test plans during the release cycles; this includes managing the day-to-day testing activities
  • Create and publish test metrics and reports (defect statistics, test plan execution statistics, etc.) on a regular basis to be used in identifying and managing release quality

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent
  • At least 5-8 years of experience as a software developer or tester
  • At least 1-2 years of experience as the lead of a team of testers
  • Experience building and testing software products using Agile / Scrum methodologies
  • Experience delivering quality enterprise software products to Global 1000 companies
  • Domain expertise in systems management, virtualization, provisioning, open source, high performance computing, and/or application performance management tools
  • Experience with HPC schedulers; specific experience with Sun Grid Engine is a big plus
  • Strong team player who is willing to learn and understand the needs of the business and help communicate those needs to the technical team to help motivate them to deliver and then lead by example
  • Development and testing experience with Core Java, C/C++, scripting languages, Java EE, JSP and other web services tools on both Windows and Linux/UNIX environments
  • Expertise with a variety of automated test tools such as Winrunner, TestPartner, QARun, Axe, Robot, etc.
  • Experience with virtualization software such as VMWare or Xen is highly desirable
  • Experience using open source software to build software products is a big plus
