SLA-based Performance

SLA-based PerformanceMost application providers are only able to offer service level agreements (SLAs) based on hardware capabilities, for example server load and utilization rates. While having tight standards here helps to reduce application response times, the concept of "guaranteeing performance" isn't really there – what is guaranteed instead is that a server's load will never exceed a certain percentage, or some penalty will occur for the provider.

In short, all that's guaranteed by systems which base performance metrics on static hardware data is that, if the system fails, some action will be taken to compensate.

How is Reliance different? Reliance bases performance guarantees on application metrics like response times and availability, ensuring that the performance customers want will always be delivered. Reliance doesn't just guarantee what will happen after a violation – it takes action to make sure the violation never actually occurs.

How It Works

Reliance's SLA Management Engine enforces application performance agreements by interpreting incoming application-related events and measuring them against defined agreements or SLAs. Based on metrics collected from applications, resources, and other areas, Reliance evaluates provisioning requirements and intelligently executes automated tasks including resource identification, scheduling, and execution.

Because this occurs in real time, the infrastructure can respond to unanticipated business events and demands immediately and with little disruption. This creates a more flexible, nimble infrastructure around which application service providers can build higher-order service offerings with guaranteed application performance for the user base.

Why It Matters

With Reliance, application providers can offer performance guarantees based on the metrics users care about, such as tight application response times and availability, rather than on low-level systems performance, such as cpu utilization, which may not accurately reflect user experience. Thus, providers can offer a whole new level of service to end users and can maximize end user satisfaction and retention.

In short, with Reliance providers can set higher performance expectations with end users – and can live up to them.
